Knight '08

The Moose suggests that the donkey should enlist the General.

Democrats need to think outside the box as they look to 2008. They need a Presidential candidate who exudes strength and can connect with the heartland. A nominee who is a straight talker and not mealy mouthed. In short, someone who can rebuild a program.

Perhaps the Democrats should consider reaching out to Texas Tech basketball coach Bobby Knight who will be returning a team to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time in over a decade. Through strategic vision, grit and determination, the outmanned and overmatched Red Raiders have defied the conventional wisdom.

Bobby Knight is the perfect unity candidate for the Democrats. He will undoubtedly satisfy the anger of the lefties and will certainly be no pushover. Tourettes Democrats will have a voice in Bobby Knight.

And centrist Democrats will appreciate Knight's adherence to standards on the court and in the classroom. Throughout his career, Knight has pressed his players to graduate and discipline those who strayed (of course, sometimes he did get carried away - but who's perfect?).

And who can deny that Bobby Knight can connect with the heartland? The Red Raiders are definitely Red State. The New York Times,

"When Texas Tech hired Knight four and a half years ago, the campus arena was half-empty and the alumni seemed to care about only football. Now, he has become the ultimate ambassador for a college whose fans salute each other by waving imaginary handguns. Like many of his constituents, Knight hunts rabbits in the backyard of his home in Lubbock, Tex., and goes fishing after the season."

Draft the General '08.
