Rasputin Moose

Is the Moose pulling the strings of Democrats and Republicans alike?

The Moose has been struck by the paranoid fantasies of the hard left and the hard right. Back in the sixties Richard Hofstader described the mindset in an article titled, The Paranoid Style in American Politics. Hofstader traced the tendency among some throughout American history to ascribe world-changing events to the evil doings of conspiracies directed by elites beginning with the Bavarian Illuminati.

Hofstader wrote,

"We are all sufferers from history, but the paranoid is a double sufferer, since he is afflicted not only by the real world, with the rest of us, but by his fantasies as well."

Today, there is a moronic convergence of the Buchananite paleo-conservative right and the left on the notion that we went to war at the direction of a cabal of neo-conservatives who seized the brain of the President. Even though Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice are hardly neo-cons, the right-left conspiracy has it that the forces of the Project for the New American Century distributed letters signed by the likes of Wolfowitz and Feith and that led us to war.

In the interests of full disclosure, the Moose once signed a PNAC letter. Suffice it to say, his signature probably had little impact on the President. But, the Moose proudly stands by his association with the neo-cons conspiracists , who, by the way, were the most vociferous supporters of the Clinton Administration in stopping the slaughter in Kosovo. Liberal internationalism is something with which the Moose has no quarrel.

The Moose should be content with influencing Bush policy, but, according to the leading paleo-conservative publication, he is also directing the front runner for the Democratic nomination! You don't believe the Moose?

Just read this cover story in the American Conservative.

Although the Moose has never met nor spoken with the Junior Senator from New York, he is her "unofficial Rasputin" according to the article. Imagine that! And to demonstrate how the left and the paleo-right converge, this left wing blog lavishly praised the piece.

Perhaps, Woody Allen is right and even paranoids have enemies. Could the Moose be the most powerful political force since the Bavarian Illuminati?

The Moose would love to answer that question, but he has calls to take from from some very influential folks and hatch some devious conspiracies. And breaking news reports that an antlered creature was seen entering the West Wing.

Who knows what evil lurks in the heart of Washington? The Moose knows...
